What’s Your Story?

Yesterday, I had gone to the Supermarket for some chips. The aisle of chips majorly sold chips from two different companies each contributing to a few brands in this segment of food which has a major contribution in the obesity epidemic affecting our planet.

I was looking at the packets of two different brands of chips. I was amazed by the differentiation that both of them claimed to have about the same Ubiquitous potato chips.

Both of them had their own Stories which talked about the culinary journey the chip took through before reaching your fingers. Both the stories began something like handpicked from organically grown farms, processed with care in precision machines to bring the unique taste and flavor in each chip that you pick. The plot of the story was that while one was Rich Indian Spices, the other was Cheese and Garlic. The plot came out in a few lines of narration which tells why the flavor was unique.

This whole incident got me into thinking. If these pack of chips costing less than one fourth of a dollar each, carry a Story of itself, then I am sure the social sector making impact in communities and in the lives of people can learn a thing or two from it.

In my opinion, Social sector needs to go beyond mentioning number of beneficiaries or just its history as its Story.  Two pointers while you craft your story.

a. Weave a Story of your Uniqueness keeping the Beneficiaries as your pivot.

b. Create a Story that churns the emotions of the reader and grabs his heart rather than his mind.

So, What’s Your Story!!! The world is waiting to hear it.
